So I went and looked at the Pontiac.
I really like the body shape of these. And those wheels. Mmm.
Yikes.
Well, that’s not TOO bad...
YIKES.
Much lower miles than my Riviera
At some point the MAF and/or the ECU was replaced... by the wrong part. Car doesn’t make boost because of it, but it pulled strong as it was. Definitely wouldn’t give up my Riv to drive this, but my friend that has it says if I bought it he would help me swap the whole cradle, including the super nice SSEi suspension, into my Riviera, put the Riviera engine and stuff into the Bonneville, and then we’d sell the Bonnie to recoup some of the money.
3800 for your time.
God damn.

What happened to the headliner?

Spoiler warning: you will never be able to sell that once you buy it, unless you get money for scrapping it.

I thought I read earlier this was a lease return? Groce.

Ever owned an 80s/90s GM product? My 87 Sunbird headliner was retained by safety pins, in 97.

How else am I gonna fix the engine and trans for my car? Those things are unobtanium around here.

Pretty sure these cars have the most thoroughly repulsive interiors of all time.

You’re not. Cut your losses. Stop throwing good money after bad, you don’t have enough to keep wasting it. You know the solution, you just don’t want to hear it.

Sell the Nissan for sure. You should think about picking up a second job or something to get your money up that way you can scrap the Riv and get something reliable.

They’re comfy, though

A supercharged Riviera is one of my dream cars though. Absolutely love my riv but it’s broken and underpowered

The riv would be reliable with a new drivetrain, though. And I love that thing.

Wow! That’s a lot of vents on the front dash lol.

Not a terrible car, I just hate the design of the interior. My Pontiac is super comfy.

Ok then. Sell all three cars (yes, including the Miata), borrow a bit of money, and buy a nice supercharged Rivi. They made lots of them, they’re out there.
Then just drive it and maintain it.

I just texted a guy about a $1600 ‘98 Riviera in two-tone silver and black.
But, no. Not getting rid of the Miata. I enjoy autocross and as nice and comfy as a Riv is it’s not exactly competent at slaloms. Also that car represents a ton of sweat and blood equity and the first major fabrication project I’ve done.

I know you said the Pontiac was junk, but holy shit. And this was a lease return? How is this even possible? If the car was in this bad of shape, buy here/pay here or not, I can't imagine they even accepted it back. And I know you said the engine/trans was good. But how sure can you be? Looking at the rest of the car, I can't imagine taking care of it was in this person's top 50 priorities, even if it was replaced by the leasing company.

If you can get a better more reliable car without selling the Miata, so be it.
